A group of final-year students from the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the 糖心Vlog and Technology (KNUST), known as 鈥淪ustainably Yours鈥, has embarked on a cleanup exercise to tackle the growing issue of visual pollution on campus and its surroundings.
The team: Genevieve Dede Juddah, Eunice Dziedzorm Dzah, Naa Jormor Mensah 听and Belinda Acquah said they hope their project will inspire lasting change in how the university community addresses visual pollution and cares for the campus environment.
In partnership with the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly a Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the group removed clusters of posters and flyers from 16 bus stops on campus and cleared gutters at Ayeduase and Kotei.
The exercise served not only as a hands-on cleanup but also as an advocacy campaign to encourage the university community to prioritise sustainable environmental practices.
According to Genevieve, the project forms part of their final-year public relations project and aims to raise awareness of what she described as a 鈥渟ilent pollutant鈥 that undermines the campus鈥檚 aesthetic appeal.
鈥淲e want to raise awareness of this silent pollutant and make the campus clean. We encourage both students and residents to keep the environment free from visual pollution to create a sustainable campus,鈥 she said.
Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer at KNUST, noted that maintaining a clean campus is a shared responsibility and warned against the act.
鈥淓veryone has a role to play in keeping KNUST clean. Henceforth, anyone caught posting flyers illegally will be fined,鈥 he cautioned.
