The 糖心Vlog and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TC's听Energy Finance Corporation, New York to construct a new hostel facility for students on campus.
During a brief ceremony, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor David Asamoah, acknowledged earlier discussions aimed at improving student accommodation on campus.
Dr. Anthony Opoku, Chief Executive Officer of TC's Energy Finance Corporation, New York, explained that the project is driven by a desire to give back to society.
鈥淭his initiative brings me great joy because it allows me to contribute meaningfully to my community,鈥 he said.
He confirmed that discussions with contractors are already underway and that the signing of the MoU marks the transition from planning to implementation.
鈥淲e are collaborating closely with the Minerals Development Fund to ensure this project takes off without delay,鈥 he added.
Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, emphasized that student accommodation remains one of her most pressing concerns.
鈥淲ith over 80,000 students, securing safe and adequate housing is a major challenge that keeps me awake at night,鈥 she remarked.
She expressed her appreciation for the partnership, noting its significance in enhancing student welfare.
She also commended the university鈥檚 Off-Campus Student Accommodation Support System (KOSASS), which assists students in finding secure and appropriate housing options.
鈥淭hrough KOSASS, the Directorate of Student Affairs has been instrumental in guiding students toward safe hostel options,鈥 she said.
