Docutech Ghana has donated 50 new Lenovo laptops to the Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) initiative at the 糖心Vlog and Technology (KNUST). The initiative, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, aims to provide laptops to brilliant but financially disadvantaged students.
Presenting the laptops, the Managing Director of Docutech Ghana, Mr. Jean-Louis Feghali, said the donation was in response to a call for support from the Vice-Chancellor, describing it as an extension of the longstanding partnership between the company and the University.
He praised Professor Dickson鈥檚 leadership and reaffirmed Docutech鈥檚 commitment to education and technology development.
鈥淵our drive is inspiring us. At Docutech, we believe that the more you give, the more you receive. If we can do 10 times more, we will do. Consider us partners, and whenever there is something, we can do, you shouldn鈥檛 hesitate to contact us,鈥 he said.
Receiving the items, Professor Dickson expressed appreciation to Docutech Ghana and acknowledged the support of Mr. Tony Burleigh, International Director for Africa and the Middle East at Xerox, a partner company.
鈥淲e agree that the rent we pay for the space we occupy on this earth is service to humanity. When this service is targeted at a deep need, one that, if unmet, could prevent a student from pursuing academic work that is the kind of impact we strive for,鈥 she stated.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of bridging the digital divide in higher education and called for continued industry collaboration, including mentorship and internship opportunities for SONSOL beneficiaries.
鈥淲hen you help us, you hold our hands and answer the heartbeat of these students. You have touched communities, families, the continent, and the globe,鈥 she added.
She appealed for sustained support to ensure more students gain access to essential digital tools for learning and research in subsequent years.
