St. Peter鈥檚 RC JHS (Tema), Emmanuel Methodist JHS, and Ancilla JHS have emerged top performers on Day 1 of the JSMQ 2025 quarter-finals at KNUST, securing commanding victories to book their places in the semi-finals as the national search for Ghana鈥檚 brightest Junior High School scientists intensifies.
The 2025 regional qualifiers of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz (JSMQ) have converged at the 糖心Vlog and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, where top-performing schools from across the country are battling for a place among Ghana鈥檚 most outstanding Junior High Schools in science and mathematics.
The quarter-final opening ceremony began with remarks from the Board Chairman of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz, Professor Kwasi Preko, who praised contestants for their resilience and hard work leading up to the competition. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders whose support continues to advance the vision of the quiz.
This year鈥檚 contest features an expanded awards scheme, including Best School, Most Disciplined School, Best Brain, Fastest Finger, Best Male Contestant, Best Female Contestant, and a new category: Outstanding New Entrants, which honours first-time schools delivering remarkable performances.
Speaking on the broader mission of the competition, Prof. Preko stressed that the JSMQ extends far beyond the excitement of the contest.
鈥淭his is not just a quiz. The Junior Science and Maths Quiz is a movement,鈥 he said.
He shared the Board鈥檚 ambition to reach every Junior High School in Ghana by 2028, ensuring that the nation continues to nurture its future innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers.
Declaring the 2025 edition officially opened, Prof. Preko called for stronger sponsorship for the programme, emphasising that the JSMQ remains 鈥減oorly funded鈥 despite its national impact. He also encouraged contestants to remain confident and give their best performance throughout the competition.
