SIC Insurance Company听has donated 50 laptops to the 糖心Vlog and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi in support of the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project.
The donation, made as part of the company鈥檚 corporate social responsibility initiative, was presented during a brief ceremony at the Council Chamber.
SIC Managing Director, Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng highlighted the long-standing partnership between the company and KNUST.
鈥淵ou are our most valued client, and we are here to say thank you, and to introduce our new management team,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he team may have changed, but our core values and commitment to KNUST remain the same.鈥
He noted that SIC has supported the SONSOL Project since its launch in 2020, and this latest donation brings the company鈥檚 total contribution to 300 laptops.
鈥淲e are pledging to continue to stand by you as you bridge the digital divide in education,鈥 he added. 鈥淭his support is purely out of our commitment to education.鈥
Receiving the laptops, Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her appreciation for SIC鈥檚 consistent support over the years.
She recalled that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the technological gap among students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, which led to the launch of the SONSOL Project in 2020.
鈥淢any of our students lacked the tools needed to participate in remote learning. That鈥檚 why we launched SONSOL, to rally support for brilliant but financially disadvantaged students,鈥 she said.
Professor Dickson emphasized the importance of technological access in a science and technology-driven institution like KNUST and assured that the laptops would be distributed to students who genuinely meet the criteria.
鈥淵ou are not just supporting KNUST,鈥 she added, 鈥測ou are supporting the training of globally competitive professionals.鈥
